Course Overview
This Manual Handling Course is designed to provide participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to prevent injuries and promote safe manual handling practices in the workplace. The course is aligned with current UK laws, such as the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, and provides a comprehensive understanding of the risks, legal requirements, and practical strategies for reducing the likelihood of injury. Through theoretical and hands-on learning, participants will gain the ability to assess, plan, and execute manual handling tasks safely and efficiently.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will:
- Understand the Risks: Recognise the common hazards associated with manual handling tasks, the physical and environmental risks involved, and the consequences of poor manual handling on health and productivity.
- Comprehend Legal Requirements: Have a thorough understanding of the UK’s legal framework for manual handling, including the obligations of both employers and employees, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
- Learn Human Anatomy and Physiology: Understand the anatomy and physiology of the spine, muscles, and joints, and how manual handling tasks impact the body, enabling participants to minimise injury risk through better body mechanics.
- Master Safe Handling Techniques: Acquire practical skills to safely lift, carry, push, and pull objects, including the use of handling aids and techniques for team handling.
- Conduct Risk Assessments: Develop the ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures, as well as maintain records and ensure continuous safety improvement.
- Engage in Practical Exercises: Gain hands-on experience through structured exercises and scenario-based learning that reinforce safe handling techniques, with personalised feedback from instructors.
